Password protecting my documents

$

Hi everyone,

I'm using adobe acrobat pro, and have used the security feature to password protect the file to restrict editing.

Basically, I don't want anybody copying my work.

But even when I do that, all I have to do is make a copy of the document and all the restrictions are removed for that document.

Is there a better/easier way to stop others from editing/copying my work?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

No longer able to password protect a pdf added as attachment to Outlook message

Up until a few weeks ago, I could add a pdf to an Outlook message, open the pdf, add a password to open, close the pdf and send the email.

Now when I attempt to password protect the pdf within a message, the pdf opens the save as box and requires that I save the password protected pdf someplace before the password is added.

What is the difference between the Adobe Send for Signature and the Adobe Sign?

I have the full Adobe Apps and Package subscription and I use the Adobe Send for Signature feature regularly for documents to be signed by employees and contractors etc.

My question is, what is the difference between Adobe Send for Signature and the Adobe Sign that asks for additional money each month?  I thought with my full subscription I have everything Adobe offers?

Also, when I send an Adobe Send for Signature Document, where can I track the status of these documents and whether they have been signed or looked at etc.  I can't seem to find it anywhere in my account.

Seeing SHA256 as hash algorithm for signature instead of SHA1

This isn't a problem (from a security perspective, obviously), I'm just trying to understand what is going on here. I have a US government CAC/smart-card with certificates and private keys for encryption/signatures, and my X.509 certificate clearly specifies SHA1 with RSA as the hash/signature algorithm that it supports. This is confirmed by some specifications from the card manufacturer. But when I apply a signature to a PDF using my card in Acrobat Reader DC, I don't see a "using SHA1 warning," and when I examine the signature with "signature properties," "advanced properties," it shows me that the hash algorithm used was SHA256. How is that possible? Is the hash just being computed by the Adobe software instead of on my card? If that's the case, why does it matter which algorithm is supported or implemented by the card? Why was Adobe software displaying the "SHA1 warning" to users just a few months ago?

Prevent Delegation

I do not want to allow recipiant to delegate the document for signing. Is there any options that disable this?

How can I "change style" of my signature? The "change style pull down does not offer any other styles -- they are all just the basic printing of my name? (Windows, Acrobat DC, recent update)

I have always added a signature via the "Fill & Sign" function for basic forms. I did so as recently as two days ago. Now, my previously saved signature (which I've used for a long time) no longer comes up as an option to use. When I try to create a new signature, all I can do is type my name in the box -- the "Change Style" tab does not have any options for additional "styles" of signature. I need to be able to use a signature that LOOKS LIKE a signature, but all I can get now is a basic printing of my name.

I have tried the directions here: Signing PDFs in Adobe Acrobat

And I know that I could use the "Certificates" function -- but I do not want to do that. I merely want to reproduce a signature-looking image and then protect the document -- but the "signature" function is not working properly for some reason.

I have rebooted the computer, checked settings, done every single thing that I could possibly think of -- but a function I have used for years no longer works.

Why is my signature suddenly gone?

I had a saved signature in Adobe that whenever I needed to sign a doc, I clicked "place signature" and an image of my signature was available to drag onto the doc. Now, when I try, it's saying "To begin signing, choose the 'Drag New Signature Rectangle' button, and then drag out the area where you would like your signature to appear." I don't understand where my signature went. I have been using it for years. I can still place my initials. What is going on?

Issues signing PDF documents with Hong Kong Post e-Cert

Hi,

Hope this is the right place to post...

I am trying to sign PDF documents with my newly issued Hong Kong Post e-Cert Digital Certificate.

This is in Acrobat Reader XI (11.0.07) on Windows.

I can sign the document OK - but when I review the "Signature pane" I see that the Signature is invalid:

1.PNG

2.PNG

Looking at the Signature properties I can see the following:

3.PNG

The chain of the Signature is:

- Hongkong Post Root CA 1

  - Hongkong Post e-Cert CA 1 - 10

     - WILSON Matthew James - my certificate

The Root and next level are trusted:

5.PNG

The error is "The selected certificate path has errors: Invalid policy constraint"

6.PNG

This certificate seems to have a policy:

7.PNG

Where as the Next Level and my certificate do not:

9.PNG

Is this the cause of the issue?

If so - is this something the issuing CA needs to sort out - i.e. Hong Kong Post or is a local configuration issue?

Many Thanks

Matthew

Certificate signing gives "the document was changed or damaged"

Hi, we have a valid PKI infrastructure with certificates for document signing issued. When we create a new pdf file and sign it with DC 2017.012.20098 the document is signed. But when we validate the signature, we get "the document was changed or damaged after it was signed" (I freely translated that from swedish). The certificate that was used for signing is validated OK. Does anyone know why the validation says that it was changed or damaged?

I can also mention that we have Acrobat Pro XI installed on the same box. If we sign the document in Pro, validation of the signature in DC is OK.

Return to old signature capability?

Acrobat Reader DC is overloaded with crappy, useless features that are mislabeled and make no sense. If I want to digitally sign a document, why the HELL didn't they add that option to the 'Fill and Sign' function instead of putting it in the 'Certificates'? Plus, the signature now has less information than in the old version.

Come on, @Adobe, stop crapping things up and give us a simple, easy-to-use and understand interface and UI. This new one is absolutely terrible. It shouldn't take me 20 minutes to digitally sign a document and add a little text.

If we get digitally signed documents, should we still get signed hard copies?

Some on our board of directors are skittish about digitally signed documents replacing signed hard copies and are asking that we get both.

I'm hoping for good documentation that can show that this is unnecessary, or even a potential problem.  Can anyone point me to good information on this topic?

Thank you for your help

Help with combining files with digital signature

I currently have a form that requires a password to make editing changes. When attempting to print this form as an Adobe PDF, I am receiving the following error message:

%%[ ProductName: Distiller ]%%

This PostScript file was created from an encrypted PDF file.

Redistilling encrypted PDF is not permitted.

%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%

%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%

What does this message mean, and is there something I can do to get rid of the message while keeping the password protection intact? The reason why we are using the Adobe PDF print function is to ensure that all signatures stay intact while allowing us to combine other separate PDF documents without losing those signatures.

We have tried to use the "combine files" operation to complete the above; however when we do this the signatures get erased. We are also aware of the portfolio option to combine separate files; however we need the form in a scrolling format which this option does not provide. The portfolio option not only doesn't allow us to scroll, but also keeps the document as a "live" version capable of being edited instead of protected as a read-only document.
